Premier Youth Racing Team
Goal and Mission
The mission of the Youth Paddling Program at Southeast Paddle Sports is to provide a pathway for the next generation of paddlers to compete in Regional, National, and International competitions. We start with a foundation built on proper paddling technique. As athletes progress, we add in cross-training and more difficult on-the-water workouts to boost speed, endurance, and long-term success on the water. Aside from performance, athletes will learn discipline and build teamwork skills. Southeast Paddle Sports’ goal is to help paddlers ages 14–18 grow not only as athletes, but as people—ready to take on the highest levels of the sport and whatever comes next.

Cross-Training
Athletes will be required to attain a gym membership for cross-training practices.
Athletes will cross-train during bad weather and regularly at the coach’s discretion.
Cross-training activities include: running, swimming, cycling, stretching, rowing erg, and strength training.
Equipment
Southeast Paddle Sports provides athletes with access to high-quality boats and other equipment to ensure they can train effectively and safely. The program includes the use of K2s during specific practices, allowing paddlers to develop teamwork, trust, and communication skills. Southeast Paddle Sports owned K1s are also available on a case by case basis. Athletes are expected to bring some personal equipment, including paddles and life jackets.
Southeast Paddle Sports insurance requires athletes to wear a life jacket. Belts are acceptable.
Skill Splash Days
Skill Splash Days are an essential part of training. This is because variation within training causes adaptation for the mental and the muscular systems. New activities are also fun and reduce burnout. Occasionally there will be scheduled practice learning activities or training camps built around the new topic. These are days where the objectives of the practice are about learning new skills in the paddling world. This can include:
Paddling in new locations
Wake riding from motor boats
K1 racing tactics in slow moving rivers
Downriver paddling in moderate moving water
Downwind paddling on Lake Lanier
Ocean paddling
Paddling Dragon Boats, Outrigger Canoes, SUPs
5km running races, and more
